The International Construction Certificate is widely used to improve the health and safety skills and knowledge of managers, supervisors and staff, in order to gain sustainable health and safety improvements within the construction industry. Quite simply, the International Construction Certificate is a qualification that leads to safer workplaces.
People who hold the International Construction Certificate will understand how to apply a risk management approach and international standards to your organisation. Employing people who hold a NEBOSH qualification demonstrates a commitment to health and safety and an assurance to others. It can even help you achieve recognised standards and win new business.
NEBOSH is highly regarded in the construction industry. Our qualifications are what employers seek when it comes to health and safety.

The International Construction Certificate is suitable for anyone who needs to gain a sound understanding of the principles of workplace health and safety in construction and related industries. It is based around global best practice and international standards, such as International Labour Organisation (ILO) codes of practice.
This qualification is designed for people throughout the world who work in construction, civil engineering, utilities, facilities, broadcasting, property management and more. It is particularly suitable for managers, supervisors and others who require the right level of skills and know-how to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities.
For some, the International Construction Certificate can be a crucial first step towards establishing a lifelong professional career within their chosen industry in the field of occupational health and safety. Many who take their International Construction Certificate progress on to one of our Diploma-level qualifications.
However, it is not a qualification solely for health and safety specialists. It is also seen as a very useful qualification for managers, supervisors and those who need to have a sound understanding of their health and safety responsibilities and who wish to implement sustainable health and safety improvements.

The qualification can be taken in English
The International Construction Certificate includes identification and control of construction workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge.
Crucially, the practical element of the course also ensures that participants can carry out, unaided, a safety inspection of a construction workplace and complete a report to management regarding the inspection with recommendations.
The key topics covered by the International Construction Certificate are as follows:
  • International standards for health and safety at work in construction
  • The importance of and key elements of health and safety management systems
  • Principles and practice of risk assessment
  • The identification of construction workplace hazards such as those associated with excavation, work at height, demolition and workplace transport safety
  • Methods for controlling identified workplace hazards within the construction industry
No previous health and safety knowledge is required.
The qualification is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately:
  • IGC1: Management of international health and safety
  • ICC1: Managing and controlling hazards in international construction activities
  • ICC2: International construction health and safety practical application
The syllabus is mapped to both the Health and Safety (PROHSS) units and Manage health, safety, welfare and environmental factors. These are maintained on a database which is managed by Skills Development Scotland www.ukstandards.org.uk/Pages/Search.aspx

Entry requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however it is important that learners taking their examination in English have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
